College Magazine Case Study

Introduction

The college magazine used for this case study is the Brunel Link. The institution the magazine linked to is Brunel University London, based in Uxbridge, London. The magazine has been in publication since 2007.

Front Cover

The front cover features a masthead in a teal text box. This is to make the masthead stand out more from the background of the image which are different shades of grey. The image is a medium-close up shot. The model in the image takes up most of the page as they are more important.

The main cover line is on the bottom right of the magazine. This is to attract readers into read the magazine as the cover article is about a Brunel Alumni who worked in Obama's re-election campaign.

Below the main cover line, there is a cover line saying "Also in this issue:". This is to advertise other feature articles in the magazine. The magazine gives a very formal impression as the model is in a suit and the minimal use of bright colors.

Contents Page

The contents page features the contents on the left side of the page in a grey textbox. The feature articles are on the right side of the page in separate text boxes. This is to differentiate them from the regular articles. The images on the feature section are linked to the article. The house style on the cover is also carried on into the contents page. The cover story is also in a teal text box to differentiate it from the rest of the feature articles.
