The magazine "Q" is a rock/indie magazine. The front cover features a mast head in big and bold font. The masthead is white in a red square. This is to make the masthead stand out more. The image is a close up shot. The model in the image is in front of the mast head as they are more important. The model is also looking at the audience creating a connection while the masthead is still visible. The model appears to be wearing dark clothing whic could imply that he is a rock artist. The skyline is used to attract readers rather than advertise the other feature article. The skyline says "Free music for 60 day".They advertise the incentive so that people will buy the magazine.

The teasers on the bottom left of the magazine. This is the only part of the magazine that is visible on the shelf. The majority of the text is written in a light grey or white color. This is to make it stand out from the background. The main cover line is written in a larger font and uses red over grey as the secondary color. This is to attract the readers attention.

Case Study 1: Double Page Spread

On the left and most of the right side of the two pages there is an image of the band which the article is about, Green Day. There is also an image of an album cover on the right side of the page which is one of their albums. This is linked to the article because it talks about how it was the best rock album of the noughties.

The band in the image is wearing dark colored clothes against a dark colored background. This is to make the artists stand out more from the clothes they wear or the background which will cause fans of the band to read the article. One of the models is holding a box of popcorn which has a design similar to the album cover on the bottom right. The cinema setting and the album cover being a design for the popcorn box suggests that they are looking back on the success of their album.

The masthead at the bottom left third of the page uses a font similar to the one used in the album cover in the bottom right third of the page. This catches the readers eye and gains their interest. It also pays homage to the album by saying "the idiots" when referring to the band. This is a callback to the album which is the topic of the article, American Idiot. On the bottom center and right of the page, there is a red text box that shows who worked on the album. The red catches the readers eye so that they know who the article is about.

Article Evaluation

Evaluation

Research Skills

When I was writing the article, I have been doing research on the advantages and disadvantages of file sharing and popular YouTube music artists.  I have used a variety of websites such as Esquire, Metro, and post discussing piracy on Reddit. I could have used more statistics in my work.

Writing Skills

My article uses a formal attitude  to discuss the increased use of the internet and how it is changing the music industry. I could have discussed more on the other ways of entering the music industry. I could have also used a larger font as it is hard to read.

InDesign Skills

I have learned a lot from my first experience in using this program. At first I had a basic Idea of what the tools were and how to structure my article. I also learned how to import text by using copy and paste and how to insert images. I am also able to export the article into JPEG or PDF format so that I can post it onto this blog.

Web Publishing Skills

I already had a blog on Blogger before taking AS Media so I already had an understanding of how the website works. I also have experience in using html so I could format the post in however I want. I found writing the blog posts of the progress of the article easy.

Conclusion and Targets for improvement

In conclusion, I found the planning of the article hard but found the writing and the blogposts easy to do. If I had comments on my blog then writing the evaluation of the article easier to do. In order to improve my article, I should have added more statistics and more information on Youtube Converters and proxies.
